If i get a loan from my bank to buy a car, would i need to have full (comprehensive) insurance?

Say i got a 鎷?000 or 鎷?000 loan from my bank and used it to buy a car, would i need to carry comprehensive insurance? Because i know that some finance companies, if they finance you buying a car, you have to have full cover. I only want third party fire and theft (UK!!!)

No. A loan is not an HP Agreement. so if the car is destroyed and your insurance doesnt cover the accident. you still have to repay the loan.

Not that this helps you but that is how it is in CT, USA. You have to have full coverage to protect the bank%26#039;s asset. It makes sense that it would be mandatory elsewhere.

Most definately, unless you want to be left withg a huge debt and no car should anything go wrong....err on the side of caution....

You would have to check with your bank. Usually when they give you the loan they will tell you if you have to have full coverage on a car. It also depends on how old the car is. If it is a newer model car then they want you to have full coverage.

I think only for new cars or maybe a over acertain amount. We have similar laws in the US. I just got a loan for a used car and didn%26#039;t have too.

If you use the car as collateral, they will require full coverage. If you simply got an unsecured personal loan, you could probably get away with the minimal liability type coverage required by law.

Whenever you finance a car, you might not be aware of it, but somewhere in the fine print you are agreeing to supply comprehensive insurance. Most banks don%26#039;t ever verify that you%26#039;ve actually done this though, because after all, you%26#039;re gonna pay them back no matter what happens to the car whether you like it or not, so it%26#039;s actually to benefit you to get the insurance, not the bank.
